Typography and karaoke

You thought grammar nazis were bad? Try typography nazis.

The main issue I have with that article is that it’s near impossible to follow those rules and have it display correctly for each and every person. No two internet users are the same. Different browsers, operating systems, and language packs installed means different machine interpretations of the same code. These rules are pretty important for serious print media, but not really practical for online use.

Still, it’s good to know. Even if I do have a raging hate-on for sixty-six and ninety-nine quotes in heavy text.

The university has a cultural fair going on all week. What that actually means is that a large group of college kids are hanging around near the event center and having an outdoor karaoke fest. Chinese college students love emo, for some reason. They sing it off key and in really bad Engrish, but it still isn’t funny due to the fact that they don’t stop singing until two in the morning. It was funny for the first three hours, sure, but I’m trying to sleep, guys. =( Can’t you sing in battered English tomorrow morning or something?

Oh, right! Lost my voice again. I’m not really even sick; I just can’t talk. I’ve never lost my voice quite this early in the year. Let’s hope that it’s not a sign that I’m going to be mute two times a year instead of one.

Crashing Internet Explorer 6 (And 7)

How to Crash IE 6 with bad CSS and HTML

Be careful if you’re using IE. It won’t crash any other browser that I know of. For IE7, it’ll crash if you resize the browser window.

These things are anything but new. Still interesting, though.

I enjoy the limelight too much

I’m updating from school! Oh, I’m such a rebel. ♥

There were visitors from Europe in my computer/tech class, looking for examples of technology used in the classroom. A PowerPoint presentation was whipped up and I got to present the part about the Java and, of course, Web Design classes.

I like presenting waaaaay too much. I love attention, what can I say. Not necessarily negative attention, but talking, presenting, acting as if I know what I’m doing… Yeah, I love doing that, despite the anxiety attacs I usually develop right before. Oddly enough, I’m fine once I start doing something. This is the same with singing and acting. I panic, but as soon I’m on stage, I’m fine.

…I want to present something again. I like bragging too much. u_u;

The end of the year is slowing creeping up

Ah, school. Frightening to think how I’ll be graduating hopefully soon. Even scarier is the prospect of senior finals. orz

All in all, though, this was a great year. The best year of high school, without a doubt. I’ll miss it, that’s for sure, but I really am excited for college. It’s odd, how I’m seemingly standing on a thin line dividing the two. Not quite sad, but not quite happy. Hmm.

In other news, Pokèmon Pearl is proving itself to be damn awesome. I picked Turtwig as my starter. So cute~ It has a sprouting leaf thing on it’s head~ My friend code is 3308-1045-3045. I don’t use the wi-fi features as often as I should, however.

Finally, new layout! Designed and coded by me! Still not quite happy enough, though.

Chicago!

The thought of going to Chicago on my birthday fills me with much glee and joy and joyfulness. Of course, my mother and I will be there for business, in which I will be translating poorly for her, and we aren’t staying for even a full twenty-four hours, but I’ll be in Chicago.

Hopefully we’ll have enough time there to visit the Art Institute of Chicago. It will be my birthday; I should get something, right?

In less exciting news, Daylight Savings Time can go die. ♥

In slightly more exciting but still generally less exciting than Chicago news, China just banned LiveJournal. Again. Well, to be fair, they banned a lot more websites recently, and Wikipedia will probably never get un-banned, but. Still. I want my LJ when I’m in China.

Also, I want to design a new layout but I just finished one for another site I’m planning and I’m up to my eyeballs in CSS and HTML and no more I want to sleep now.

So I caved and designed something.

Kind of. I didn’t design anything as so much as modified a layout. I originally was going to build a WordPress theme for scratch, but my patience ran out trying to figure out the CSS for all the little extras and details. That, and I’m a noob at PHP.

Right now I’m using a modified version of Tequilo’s A Silent Place with custom colors, a recolored background for the body and menu, and a custom header.

And moving away from blog redesign, my mother and I attended the FAFSA meeting at school tonight. My God, filling out that form is a pain. I sympathize for every parent who has to do this multiple times.

Other than that, I don’t really have anything else to say. Oh, wait; I have white grape blueberry kiwi juice. Mmm, juice.
